Marriage preparation turns out to be not just a matter of buildings and dresses, you know. The bride and groom are encouraged to vaccinate before marriage, as an effort to prevent diseases that may appear after marriage. Come on, know what types of vaccines are recommended before marriage.
The health condition of the bride and groom is important to consider before marriage. This is because after marriage, you will have sex regularly. In addition, the possibility that you are pregnant is very big. By giving the vaccine, you can be protected from several dangerous diseases.
5 Types of Vaccines Recommended Before Marriage
Here are 5 types of vaccines that can be given before you get married and have children:
1. DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus) and TT (tetanus toxoid)
The Indonesian government requires TT vaccinations for brides. But if you have done the previous DPT vaccination, you do not need to do TT vaccination again. This is because the DPT vaccine has covered three diseases, namely diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.
Both of these vaccines can be given before marriage or to women who will and are pregnant. It is recommended to do a DPT revaccination (booster) once every 10 years.
2. HPV (human papillomavirus)
The HPV virus can cause a number of diseases, including cervical cancer. Transmission of this virus is through direct contact and sexual relations. Therefore, the HPV vaccine should ideally be given to women who have not had intercourse or before marriage. Giving vaccines after a person is infected with a virus is considered less effective.
Men are also encouraged to carry out this vaccination to prevent contracting the virus from their partners.
3. MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
MMR vaccination before marriage is also recommended, because it can help prevent measles, mumps and rubella. This is important, especially for those of you who want to have a baby soon.
If one of these diseases occurs in pregnant women, a miscarriage or fetus can occur with a disability. This vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women because it might be dangerous for the fetus. So, the best time to do this vaccination is before planning a pregnancy. After being vaccinated, you and your partner also need to prevent pregnancy for 3 months.
4. Chicken pox (varicella)
Having chickenpox during pregnancy can increase the risk of a fetus experiencing a disability. Even so, chickenpox vaccination during pregnancy is not recommended. You are encouraged to do this vaccination before marriage. This vaccine is also preferred if you are under 30 years old and have never had chickenpox.
If in doubt with the history of vaccination you have ever done, this smallpox vaccine may be given back.
5. Hepatitis B
The hepatitis B vaccine is included in basic immunization in newborns up to the age of five. Even so, you are still advised to do hepatitis B vaccination before marriage as a preventive measure.
This vaccination needs to be done because hepatitis B can spread through intimate relationships and the use of shared personal items, such as toothbrushes and razors. Not only that, hepatitis B can also be transmitted from mother to baby during childbirth.
Vaccination should be one of the wedding preparations by the bride and groom. This vaccination can prevent diseases that may appear later in life. Consult with your doctor to get a check-up and vaccination before marriage.
